We see the statistics and hear about the number of people who live in poverty and have for generations with no opportunity for education to break the cycle. Little known fact: because South Africa is below the equator and the seasons are opposite from ours here in the Northern hemisphere, the South African school year starts in January. And as one year comes to a close for them, it is time for us here at TNHF to begin planning for the next.
This past Saturday, three of our fabulous interns, Matt, Melanie and Andrew, did These Numbers Have Faces proud at the Clinton/Division street fair. Portland neighborhoods have a lot of pride, and every coulple of weeks during the summer, a different area celebrates in style. Arts and crafts vendors, activist groups (like us!), food stands and musicians abound.
I’ve worked for and with a number of nonprofits in my short, albeit varied career. Working with nonprofits varying from small, large, and somewhere in between; I’ve experienced the best and the not-so best of what this sector has to offer.
