Dreams are the fuel of life.

It is dreams that give us light and allow us to imagine a different reality. Without the ability to dream of a new and different way, how can change ever be achieved? But it is not dreams that make a difference in the world: it is the people who hold those dreams and work to transform them into reality who make a difference. It is the torchbearers who hold their light out for all to see while they walk forward toward their dream.

Today, we remember Dr. Martin Luther King: a dreamer with conviction and the willpower to transpose dreams into action. Dr. King was many things: a father, a husband, an activist, a pastor, and a leader. Yet despite his full life, King never let his dreams stay aloft in the sky. He gave them the “urgency of now” and with dedication worked every day towards their establishment. King spoke, “And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. I have a dream today!”

The world is made up of dreamers. I can’t help but believe that each and every one of us holds a dream. Some carry it like a flag before them and others keep it locked up tightly, only retrieving it every so often to give a little light to the long months and years. Few dreamers become activists like King. Few have the dedication to treat their dreams with the urgency of now. Imagine the transformation the world would see if dreams were shared, built, transformed, and driven forward with relentless perseverance until the day those dreams became reality.

We have a dream.

We dream that young people who have dreams, but lack the means to carry them out, will be able to walk forward with the confidence that they are not only dreamers, but that they are leaders who can and will make a difference in their communities.

We have a dream.

And today we invite you to take a step forward toward yours. The world needs dreamers with conviction. Share your dream with us today.

We, at These Numbers Have Faces aspire to be like Dr. King. To not settle for the imperfect world we see before us, but to contribute what we can and walk forward to make the world a better place.

We have a dream.

“With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.”
–Dr. Martin Luther King.
